Pro tips
Reopen Closed Tabs Chain
Ctrl+Shift+T doesn't just reopen the last tab - press it repeatedly to restore tabs in reverse order. Even works after restarting Chrome.
Omnibox Is a Calculator
Type math expressions directly in the address bar (Ctrl+L). Chrome shows results instantly: '15% of 250', 'sqrt(144)', or '5 miles in km'.
Pin Important Tabs
Right-click a tab and Pin it. Pinned tabs are smaller, stay on the left, and persist when you restart Chrome. Great for apps you keep open all day.
Tab Groups for Organization
Right-click a tab → Add to group. Color-code and name groups, then collapse them to save space. Groups are saved and restored between sessions.
Keyboard-Only Tab Navigation
Use Ctrl+1-8 to jump to specific tabs by position, Ctrl+9 for the last tab. Combined with Ctrl+T and Ctrl+W, you never need to touch the mouse for tab management.
Search Open Tabs
Press Ctrl+Shift+A to search across all open tabs. This is invaluable when you have dozens of tabs open and need to find a specific one quickly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reopen a tab I accidentally closed?
Press Ctrl+Shift+T (⌘+⇧+T on Mac) to reopen the last closed tab. Press it multiple times to restore tabs in reverse order. This works even after restarting Chrome.
What's the difference between reload and hard reload?
Ctrl+R does a normal reload using cached resources. Ctrl+Shift+R (hard reload) bypasses the cache and re-downloads everything. Use hard reload when you see stale content.
Can I customize Chrome keyboard shortcuts?
Chrome doesn't have a built-in shortcut customizer. For extension shortcuts, go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts. For broader customization, use OS-level tools or browser extensions.
How do I use Chrome without a mouse?
Tab moves between interactive elements, Enter activates them. Ctrl+L focuses the address bar. Use Tab/Shift+Tab to navigate, Ctrl+Tab for tabs, and Space to scroll.
How do I manage multiple Chrome profiles?
Click your profile icon (top right) → Add. Each profile has separate bookmarks, history, extensions, and logged-in accounts. Use Ctrl+Shift+M to switch between them quickly.
Why are some shortcuts different on Mac?
Mac uses ⌘ (Command) instead of Ctrl for most shortcuts. Some shortcuts also change: e.g., address bar is ⌘+L, DevTools is ⌘+⌥+I, and history is ⌘+Y.
