Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between HEX and RGB?
They describe the same color in different notations. RGB lists red, green and blue from 0-255, while HEX writes those three values in base-16, so rgb(255,0,0) equals #FF0000. This tool converts between them instantly.
When should I use HSL?
HSL (hue, saturation, lightness) is the most intuitive for adjusting a color by hand: change the hue to shift the color, or the lightness to make it lighter or darker without touching the hue. It is great for building palettes.
What is CMYK for?
CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) is the ink model used for print. Screens are RGB, so converting to CMYK gives a print-oriented reference, though final output always depends on your printer and paper.
Why do my colors look different in print?
Screens emit light (RGB) while print reflects it (CMYK), and CMYK cannot reproduce every bright RGB color. Converting here shows roughly how a color will shift so there are fewer surprises.
