How To Use The Bridge Edge Loop Tool in Blender

Bridge the gap between complex meshes using Blender's Bridge Edge Loops tool, connecting vertices, edges, and faces with precise control.

There are a few tools of Mesh Editing that you can use when modeling, but they do not appear in the toolbar when switching to Edit Mode, such as the Bridge Edge Loop, which connects multiple vertices and edges with faces, similar to the Fill tool, but more straightforward. Do you want to know how to use it? Let’s make an example to understand how it works:

First, press Shift + A to bring up the Add Menu to pick a Circle Object, which will have thirty-two (32) vertices by default, and edges are drawn between them but no face to fill it. Once you have it, duplicate it by pressing D + Z (for moving it on the Z axis), and pull it up.

Afterward, press Ctrl and click on both circles, then go to Edge Select Mode (remember that is in the upper horizontal panel), right-click and choose the “Bridge Edge Loops” option to quickly fill the gap between those loops.

Note: This tool works in partial loop selections as well as complete ones.

Now there are some advanced options you can look at, for example: You don’t have to draw faces between the edges, simply you can Merge the entire Edge Loops. For that, after enabling the Bridge Select Loops Tool, go to the pop-up at the bottom left of your screen and click on the “Merge” option. All that will do is collapse the two Edge Loops into a single one.

Furthermore, you can increase or decrease the values of the “Twist” option by clicking on the arrows. Then, that will show you which vertices of one loop will be connected to the other.

And here are the rest of the things you can set in the little Bridge Edge Loop Menu:

●       Number of cuts: Will add horizontal edge cuts between them.

●       Smoothness: Will adjust those horizontal edge loops along the whole model.

●       Profile Factor: Will choose or expand the intermediary new edges.

Note: Both edge loops must be roughly aligned and have approximately the same number of vertices, but it doesn’t need to be exact.
