What DPI should I use for printing?
300 DPI is the standard for sharp photo and print work. Large-format prints viewed from a distance, like posters and banners, can use 150 DPI or lower, while fine-art printing sometimes goes higher.
What's the difference between DPI and PPI?
PPI (pixels per inch) describes a digital image's pixel density; DPI (dots per inch) describes how many ink dots a printer lays down. They are often used interchangeably, and this tool relates your pixel dimensions to a physical print size.
Does changing DPI change image quality?
DPI on its own is just metadata and does not add pixels. Quality depends on having enough pixels for the print size, and this calculator shows the largest size your pixel count supports at a given DPI.
What PPI is considered Retina?
Apple's Retina displays start around 220 PPI on laptops and 300 or more on phones, where individual pixels are not visible at a normal viewing distance.
